Twinning Program with Papua New GuineaThe Commonwealth Ombudsman and the Ombudsman Commission of Papua New Guinea are both committed to an effective twinning program with annual exchanges of placement officers. The present system provides for three Papua New Guinea placements to work directly with Ombudsman officers for two months each in Australia. To date this has been solely with Commonwealth Ombudsman staff. The potential exists in the future for this to be expanded to include work in some State ombudsman offices. This experience would reinforce the wider development of the Pacific island ombudsman network. In return, one Commonwealth Ombudsman officer is placed in Papua New Guinea annually for a longer period, to date this being four months.
