The Ombudsman is about to release a comprehensive own motion report into the
administration of visa cancellations under s 501 of the Migration Act as it applies to long-term
permanent residents. |  |
On 30 November 2005, the Parliament passed new legislation to provide the Ombudsman with powers to establish an Immigration Ombudsman function within the office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman. |  |
This bulletin clarifies some of the issues that have arisen since the last Immigration Bulletin in relation to the Ombudsman’s review of long-term detainees. |  |
